One of the things I love best about what I do is making new friends, connections, and colleagues, and discovering new causes to support. Last Saturday after my talk in Lamar, Colorado I got the chance to meet female Corpsman Kelly Rodriguez, currently serving in the New Orleans area, who asked if I'd be interested in accompanying her and a group of female veterans on an alligator hunt later this month in Louisiana 🐊 The organization sponsoring the hunt is COMBAT MARINE OUTDOORS INC, a Houston-based veteran nonprofit that Kelly and her husband (a retired combat Marine) have been involved with for several years. The cool thing is that CMO is interested in expanding their efforts to increase offerings for female vets and veteran families, as well as retreats focused on mental wellness.Stay tuned for developments!!! https://lnkd.in/gR5FpwQ3Elizabeth A. As humans - especially trauma survivors - we almost always have a nagging sense that something is wrong: something has gone wrong in our past, something is wrong with us, something is going to go wrong. In other words, everything is not quite as we think it should be.How often do we actually feel at peace, fully present to the moment, and satisfied with our life and circumstances? This beautiful sunny morning in Lamar, Colorado, the heartland of America, as I prepare for my speech at the Annual Tristate 9/11 Tribute, I took a moment to reflect on where I am, what I have, and what I am doing with my life:I have an incredible husband who supports me and my work, who sees me and who I really am, and even better, loves me.I have the freedom to create; to write, to speak, and to draw upon the well of experience and wisdom I've gained over the past 20 years, to educate and inspire others.I have amazing, supportive friends and family around the country who are praying for me.I get to speak to a large crowd today about the tragic events of 9/11, the wars it generated, and the beauty that can be born of post-traumatic growth. #gratefulYou can stream my talk from the PROWERS COUNTY Sand and Sage Fairgrounds today at 1pm Mountain Time: https://lnkd.in/gRK4thdZDamian W.
